Year after year, kids treated at OHSU Doernbecher link up with Nike’s design crew to build custom shoes showcasing their personality and a love for sneakers! Instead of just picking and placing, each child shapes an actual Nike model, calling the shots on color, fabric, and even tiny features baked into the look. Each pair carries a piece of real days, passions, hurdles, and what lights them up.
Over the course of a couple of months, the children participate in crafting their design from start to finish. First, drawings and thoughts are jotted down. From there, fabric picks, textures, and prints slowly fall into place. Hints of interest, love for gaming, pets, and perseverance show up quietly throughout each pattern. There is no push, no strain in how it fits. Each pair grows step by step, holding weight in ways that speak before words do.
For the 21st line-up, six shoe styles emerge in the Doernbecher Freestyle 21 lineup, reimagined hand-in-hand with Nike designers. Not far behind come two clothing items: a Nike Club Fairway Cardigan joins forces with tees that borrow bold cues straight from the footwear. Each piece speaks for itself, yet fits right into the bigger picture.
The Doernbecher Freestyle 21 Collection releases in stores at the locations listed below on January 17.
