Ah, 2009 – what a time to be alive. Let me paint you a reflective picture; one you might've seen before, assuming you're over the age of twelve: It's Friday night, and you're leaving the AMC after seeing James Cameron's immersive magnum opus, “Avatar.” You silently contemplate the meaning of life on earth as you place the key into the ignition of your mother's Toyota Camry. As you peel out of the parking lot, you flip through no less than twelve radio stations to find one that's not playing “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas. You cannot.
“But, what am I wearing in this oddly specific scenario you've created?” you may be asking. Easy – the red-suede Air Jordan 5 from the “Raging Bull” pack. Released in 2009, this two-horned, Chicago Bulls–themed release captivated sneakerheads, and introduced the world to one of the greatest, non-OG Air Jordan 5 makeups of all time. It's been over a decade since the release of the red-suede “Raging Bull” colorway, and its set to make a triumphant return later this month.
This upcoming retro stays true to the original, donning a supple suede upper dipped in a fiery “Varsity Red” hue. The side panels and lower tongues are home to clear, TPU-mesh netting, while tonal “23” embroidery makes its way to the lateral heels. Reflective, 3M tongues bear black Jumpman embroidery – the high-flying icon appears on the heels as well.
Foam midsoles are painted black to match the upper's eyelets. They feature stark white shark-teeth accents with “University Red” tips, which mimic the horns seen on the Chicago Bulls' logo. The midsole units are capped off with icy, semi-translucent rubber outsoles.
The Air Jordan 5 “Raging Bull” is scheduled to release April 10th on JimmyJazz.com
