In an effort to foster a new generation of innovators and creatives, SNIPES has launched the Young Geniuses Program. The focus is to provide youth from underserved communities with access to both creative spaces and technology/tools – guiding them towards success in this increasingly competitive environment. SNIPES continues to inspire students to pursue higher education while offering them the support they need to enhance their potential in the world of technology and design. The Program was featured on CBS News Atlanta, click here to read the story and watch the video.
On October 24th in Atlanta, the student designers turned a regular teachers lounge into a sneaker themed showcase for their final projects. Presenting to their classmates allowed students to gain feedback from peers and instructors, while discussing ways that technology could be used to further develop their community helps to ensure engaged citizens. At the event, a number of representatives from the city’s governing board had come, such as councilman Antonio Lewis, to observe alongside experienced STE(A)M educators. To mark the occasion, a delicious lunch was organized, but that was only the beginning – the real joy of the experience was the opportunity to share what had inspired them during this journey of designing their very own functional style of footwear for an inclusive community.
As a reminder, the STE(A)M Truck program was designed to help eliminate inequities in the local systems and get the ball rolling to transform all areas of education. It is well known that access to the tools necessary to propel students forward in STEM-related fields is widely unavailable. You can learn more about their program on their website.
