Originally released in 1985 subsequent to the heavy hitting “Bred,” “Chicago,” and “Royal” colorways, the Air Jordan 1 High “Metallic” pack offered a fresh take on the then state-of-the-art basketball model. With unusual, shimmering color palates and pedestrian blocking, the four colorways in the collection quickly captured the hearts of Jordan enthusiasts.
Given the current sneaker landscape's infatuation with the Air Jordan 1, it's only right that Jordan Brand would opt to reintroduce some of its “Metallic” flavors to the market. Recent years have seen the rerelease of both the “Metallic Navy” (2016) and “Metallic Red” (2017) iterations, but one colorway has been noticeably absent from the party.
The “Metallic Purple” scheme from the aforementioned pack hasn't seen a lot of play since its launch in 1985, save for an international-exclusive retro release in 2009 under the “Grand Purple” moniker. That version heavily deviated from the OG, opting for a pebbled-leather construction and Jumpman emblems galore.
Not to worry, Jordan Brand has recently announced that a new, women's-exclusive “Court Purple” Air Jordan 1 High is on the way, and it's definitely the closest we've come to getting a 1-1 “Metallic Purple” retro.
This upcoming colorway comes clad in white, tumbled leather in near entirety. The pristine base is contrasted by “Metallic”-esque leather applications used for the side Swooshes and ankle collars, which are done in the titular tone. Additionally, the “Court Purple” hue is applied to the Wings-logo stamps, Nike Air–branded tongue tabs, and sockliners.
In classic Air Jordan 1 fashion, midsoles are done in rubber and given a healthy shellacking of white paint. Conversely, rubber outsoles are given a cool “Court Purple” treatment, tying everything together.
The Air Jordan 1 High “Court Purple” is slated to drop June 3rd on JimmyJazz.com in women's, preschool, and toddler's sizing.
