On February 11th 1996, San Antonio's Alamodome was packed to the brim with NBA superstars, all of whom were vying for the coveted All-Star Game MVP award. The who's who of future hall-of-famers was (obviously) led by Michael Jordan, who would go on to claim the accolade with an effortless twenty-point outing. And, while classic, Mike's '96 All-Star Game performance is ultimately remembered more for what he wore on the court, and less about what he did on it.
During the exhibition, His Airness famously donned a colorway of the Air Jordan 11 that was unlike both previous versions of the model. Dubbed “Columbia,” the sneakers boasted a white-and-light blue color scheme – a far cry from Jordan Brand's usual Bulls-themed palate. The 1996 NBA All-Star Game would be the only time Jordan ever played in the “Columbia” 11s, but its popularity would only grow as years went by.
Since its debut in 1996, the Tarheels-adjacent colorway has seen two retro releases: one in 2001, and another in 2014. For the latter iteration, Jordan Brand changed the sneaker's name from “Columbia” to “Legend Blue” to honor Mike's mythology. It's been seven years since we last saw the “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11, but we've received word that it's coming back this month in a new, altered form.
The forthcoming Air Jordan 11 Low “Legend Blue” takes everything you love about the original colorway, and gives it a summer-ready twist. The base is done in smooth white leather, while shiny, white patent-leather overlays wrap from the forefront to the heels. Textile tongues are also done in white, and feature “Legend Blue” Jumpman-branded tabs – similarly-colored Jumpman logos are embroidered into the heels. The pristine upper is contrasted by stark-black sockliners.
Moving toward the sole, you'll find foam midsole units done in white. These are capped with classic, icy-blue rubber outsoles, completing the design.
The Air Jordan 11 Low “Legend Blue” is set to release April 24th on JimmyJazz.com in full-family sizing.
