Remember the “Taxi” Air Jordan 12? You know, the first colorway to dress Mike's 12th signature model from 1996? Well, it's back – sort of.
I say sort of because, while there is a similarly-colored 12 coming down the pipeline, it will be operating under a different, luxurious moniker. Its makeup is best described as: “What if you affixed a set of gaudy gold-plated rims to that taxi over there?” That would probably give you the new Air Jordan 12 “Royalty.”
Like the original, this iteration features a white tumbled-leather upper, which is quilted to resemble the Japan's iconic rising sun flag. From there, textured mudguards done in black leather are applied to the lateral and medial sides. Its royal nickname is derived from the “Metallic Gold” accents that appear on the “Jumpman”-branded tabs on the lateral mudguards, the Jumpman logos embroidered on the tongues, the heel-panel lettering, and the uppermost eyelets.
The upper sits atop split black-and-white midsole units composed of responsive foam – they house carbon-fiber shank plates in the midfoot. The colorway is completed with sturdy rubber midsoles done in black.
