Which NBA players come to mind when you think of player-exclusive (PE) Air Jordan sneakers? Mike Bibby? Ray Allen? Richard Hamilton? Undoubtedly, they're all vying for the crown of on-court kicks – but there's another contender who deserves recognition for his PE prowess.
Quentin Richardson, or Q-Rich, played 13 seasons in the association as a sharpshooting two guard. In that span of time, he put up shots for five different teams but stayed loyal to one sneaker brand – Jordan. Basketball abilities aside, Q-Rich was known for his extensive collection of Air Jordan PEs, ranging from Clippers-themed Air Jordan 9s to Knicks-flavored Air Jordan 8s, among countless others.
In 2018, Jordan Brand released a colorway of the Air Jordan 13 that paid homage to Richardson's “Orlando Magic Home” PE pair from 2012. Later this month, the brand is set to unveil its darker half.
Men’s
The upcoming Air Jordan 13 “Hyper Royal” takes cues from Richardson's “Orlando Magic Away” PE, with black, quilted mesh consuming the side panels and smooth, black leather gracing the toeboxes. Titular “Hyper Royal” suede accents appear on the sneaker's side- and heel-panel underlays, as well as sections of the midsole. The upper is branded with holographic cat's-eye emblems on the lateral heels and embroidered “Hyper Royal” Jumpman logos on the tongues.
Black rubber accents contrast the “Hyper Royal” suede midsoles, and the sneaker is finished with black-and-white rubber outsoles that are stabilized by carbon-fiber shank plates.
