In 1959, Wilbert L. (Bill) and Genevieve (Vieve) Gore founded the brand after believing there was untapped potential within PTFE (polymer polytetrafluoroethylene). It wasn’t until 10 years later when their son, Bob, discovered the power of stretching PTFE! His test resulted in the creation of an impressively strong material that includes low water absorption and good weathering properties, known as ePTFE or what GORE-TEX fabric is today!
For the next 45 years, GORE-TEX continued introducing and innovating many divisions of the technology in activewear, pro-sports, PACLITE, SHAKEDRY, and many more, growing into the household name it has become. From international expeditions in Antarctica to NASA’s first space shuttle mission, explorers around the world credit the brand for creating a fabric that has changed and saved lives.
Known for outdoor products and adventure, the partnership between The North Face brand and GORE-TEX is like family. Both brands share a vision and have been the driving force behind pushing boundaries for outdoor gear. “Weather” (pun intended) when TNF uses GORE-TEX fabric on the shell of their jackets or lines the inside of their accessories, the innovative duo has produced gear that can stand the test of time.
