This is due, in part, to the abundance of post-industrial waste left behind by massive corporations.

Nike has been pushing their “Move to Zero” campaign for the better part of a year, with the goal of lowering their carbon and waste to zero. The mission of the campaign is to save the future of sport, with Nike citing that due to increasingly hot and humid conditions, the landscape of sports could be altered permanently.
To achieve their goal, Nike has started producing sneakers and clothing from recycled post-industrial materials that would otherwise be discarded.
The Space Hippie footwear collection features four unique silhouettes that are composed almost entirely of these recycled materials. These sneakers look truly extraterrestrial, with their combination of bold colors and innovative materials.
A fan favorite silhouette from the Space Hippie collection is the Space Hippie 04. The sneaker is the lightest in the collection and boasts the lowest carbon footprint. It features a “Space Waste Yarn” upper, which is crafted from nearly 85% recycled polyester, including recycled plastic bottles, t-shirts and yarn scraps. The sneaker also features a chunky “Crater Foam” midsole, composed of a blend of various foams and “Nike Grind,” which is made from ground-up parts of Nike's manufacturing scrap, unsellable products and worn-out sneakers.
The minimal lacing system is crafted from thin pieces of string interwoven through the upper, which act as eyelets. Additional details include a large embroidered Nike Swoosh on the lateral side, a small embroidered Swoosh on the toebox, and a pull-tab on the heel. The sneaker's minimal composition really relies on the bold look of the upper and midsole to do the heavy lifting, and it works.
The Nike Space Hippie 04 is set to release on JimmyJazz.com in three colorways: A Grey & Volt pair, a Lemon Venom & Black pair, and a Sail & Astronomy Blue pair. Grab a pair on September 20th to help Nike save the future of sport.

The mission of Nike's Move to Zero campaign is to save the future of sport. So, we think it would be appropriate to style the Space Hippie 04 with some athletic outfits from Nike's Move to Zero Collection.
For the first outfit, start with a pair of the Nike Sportswear Joggers from the Move to Zero Collection. These ultra-comfortable grey joggers feature a Nike logo comprised of the same “Nike Grind” as the midsole of the Space Hippie 04. These joggers also offer tapered ankle cuffs, which will sit nicely atop the sneaker. Finish the outfit with the Nike Sportswear Short Sleeve Jersey Top. This t-shirt is comprised of a blend of at least 90% recycled organic cotton fibers to aide in Nike's environmental fight.
For the second outfit, start with the same Nike Sportswear joggers, but this time in white. This white colorway will match nicely with the midsole of the Lemon Venom pair. Pair the joggers with the Nike Sportswear Full-Zip Hoodie from the Move to Zero Collection. This sweatshirt is comprised of a blend of at least 75% recycled organic cotton fibers for a cozy fit. Finish the outfit with the Nike Worldwide Cap. This hat features an Earth-themed front graphic that fits in line with Nike's Move to Zero initiative.
