SNIPES CELEBRATES AAPI HERITAGE MONTH LIKE NEVER BEFORE

It is time to break the silence and SNIPES knows more than a few ways of how to bring people together to amplify the voices of AAPI Heritage Month. This year, we got loud and proud by partnering with Canal Street Market to host Asian American and Pacific Islander-owned small businesses for a day of cultural richness. We hope this day continues to inspire the community to continue the work of building up the next generation so that their voices are heard, and their leadership is seen. On May 27th, Canal Street was lit upwith diverse cultural events, panels, and shopping. This activation was so much more than ever could be imagined; it was a moment in history that we will remember forever. People who made their way to Canal Street were able to stop in and listen to the AAPI Panel which brought together thought leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, and influencers to share their unique perspectives and experiences. Our panelists included: Sue Tsai, Mimi Choi, Jordan Andino, and Rich Tu. The panel covered topics like AAPI heritage on entrepreneurship and streetwear fashion to the challenges and triumphs of the community in media, and business. Something we love to do at SNIPES is bring people together so that we can spark meaningful conversations among a diverse crowd.

Sue Tsai is an artist and designer from NYC who specializes in edgy crossover reflections of art, fashion, and pop culture. She loves to create for the younger generation in hopes that they feel inspired as artists and future collectors. Her self-made brand has led to sold-out pop-up shows, a successful line of merchandise, and collaborations with major brands in both product design and art direction for major marketing campaigns.

Mimi Choi is the Director of Brand Partnerships at Billionaire Boys Club / ICECREAM. Founded by Pharrell Williams and Nigo in 2003, the club blends streetwear, luxury, fashion, music, and culture into its clothing, accessories, and lifestyle collections. The brand was built under the mantra, “Wealth is of the heart and mind. Not the pocket.” The club is also dedicated to their communities through giving back to causes that align with their mission such as the NYCHA, Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, and mental health non-profit organizations.

Jordan Andino is a Chef and tv personality who has made appearances on the Cooking Channel for Late Night Eats, The Today Show, and The Rachael Ray Show, and has been a contest on Recipe for Deception, Beat Bobby Flay, and more. Jordan’s blend of classic Filipino Cuisine and French Technique combined with other elements has created a unique signature for his Flip Sigi restaurants.

Rich Tu is an award-winning designer and artist living in Brooklyn NY. He is a Partner and Executive Creative Director at Sunday Afternoon. He also is the host of the podcast, First Generation Burden, and co-founder of the COLORFUL awards with the One Club for Creativity, which is dedicated to creating opportunities for BIPOC creatives. His creative focus is on emerging audiences and eclectic brands that benefit from unique perspectives. He has collaborated with big names such as The New York Times, adidas, Converse, North Face, Nike, and A24.

After a thought-provoking panel discussion, the after-party began at the market with live music by DJ Luv as well as live tattoos by Jane Lee and Yoon Park. In addition to these exciting events, guests were able to stroll around the market and taste the many complimentary Asian-inspired dishes and cocktails available. Thank you to everyone who came out to rock with us while celebrating the AAPI community.
