First introduced in the US in 1968, Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebratory time dedicated to honoring and embracing Hispanic history, culture, and the contributions of Hispanic-Americans. This occasion happens every year from September 15th to October 15th as the 15th marks independence anniversaries for some Latin American countries. From festivals to large gatherings across the nation, this month recognizes the importance of Hispanic-Americans as they have and continue to leave a huge influence on American culture.
With such a rich Latin history, Converse drops the “Mi Gente” collection inspired by places and faces of LatinX barrios. Each footwear and apparel style offers graphics and prints based on historic Bodegas while on top of premium materials. You’ll see classic styles like the Chuck 70 and Chuck Taylor All Star get a luxury update beyond your favorite basic essential colorways. To celebrate this month and the collection, SNIPES is partnering with Converse on a special activation in our Jamaica Ave retail location. On Saturday Sept. 18th, the SNIPES “market” will be located inside the store and will feature creative works and pieces from different LatinX photographers curated by the art and photo collective Street Dreams. Not only will their photos be featured in the market, the Street Dreams team will also be bringing their monthly playlist, Live at the Bodega, to life in the store!
