SNIPES SERVES – Crack the Code is a very special project that many are proud to be a part of. Working with community leaders in Brooklyn, SNIPES has built Computer Labs to help support and develop future S.T.E.M. leaders, providing members of all ages with a safe space to learn and resources to achieve their goals. Facilitating community closeness with our initiatives is always a heart-warming experience for the SNIPES team. One of the three most recent developments was the Gowanus Houses Computer Lab in Brooklyn, New York. The Gowanus Houses were built in the year 1949 and consist of 14 buildings tucked away along the canal. The Gowanus neighborhood is known for its charm and dense urban atmosphere. The grand opening of this computer lab consisted of a Mac tutorial led by Mac Instructor, Gabriel Acevedo, along with food and beverages provided at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The lab will offer students access to iPads, Smartboards, laptops, and printers all in one stimulating environment.
This weekend was a busy weekend for the Crack the Code initiative as a second location opened at the Brooklyn Youth Sports Club. F1rst NYC, a must-try family-owned restaurant located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, provided food for the opening event. The Brooklyn Youth Sports Club’s mission is to enable and support inner-city Brooklyn youth to accomplish their goal of college enrollment while using athletics as a tool to inspire and support that goal. This club is building a community, making it another perfect location for a Crack the Code lab. This opening was full of smiling faces and giveaways.
To round out the weekend, SNIPES also held a grand opening at Grant Houses in Harlem. Like the other locations, there were food and beverages provided as well as giveaways for all the community members that came out to see the new space.
