The chunky sneaker is a trend that has been building over the past few years that I am sure we have all seen, if not yet bought into. A little divisive, this trend is one you either love or love to hate. Personally, I have gone from hater to stan with this one, and as more brands evolve and adopt their own version I love it more and more. There are so many ways you can adopt this trend in your personal style, and while we’re at it… there are levels to the chonk.
Current brands that may come to mind for you when you think of a chunky sneaker most definitely include New Balance, Nike and Asics. In recent years, Fila has definitely risen to the top of that list as well. More recently, a modern approach has been taken by New Balance with their Fresh Foam X More Trail v3 shoe.
The re-emergence of 90s fashion and Y2K trends have definitely helped brands to re-purpose their bulky shoes for a more stylish streetwear look that all the Gen-Z fashionistas are wearing.
Now if we are talking “Dad Shoe,” most of us probably experience a That’s So Raven style vision of the Nike Air Monarch 4. Lately, a popular version of the “Dad Shoe” that has emerged is the New Balance 990. We have been seeing this sneaker everywhere, and hey – it’s about time it got the love it deserves.
