Bordeaux, the picturesque city in the southwest region of France, has long been a hotbed for some of the world's finest wineries. Its dry, gravely soil is conducive to growing the grapes from which the spirit is made, and that resulting product also serves as the inspiration behind some of Jordan Brand's most popular colorways.
The footwear flavor first appeared in 1992 with the release of the Air Jordan 7 “Bordeaux,” which was worn by the Jumpman himself during that season's All-Star Game. It featured a color palate unlike any other basketball sneaker of its time, one that wasn't associated to any particular NBA team and one that featured a boozy burgundy tone.
Since then, the “Bordeaux” moniker has been used on a handful of the brand's retro silhouettes, from the Air Jordan 12 to the Air Jordan 6. Now, this month, the deep shade is set to spill onto the Air Jordan 1 High.
This iteration of Michael Jordan's first signature model features a white, tumbled leather base which appears on the toeboxes, quarter panels, and ankle collar. That base is then contrasted by brooding “Bordeaux”-colored leather overlays on the mudguards, eyestays, heels, and ankle collar flaps. The tongues are constructed from breathable nylon and feature burgundy “Nike Air” tabs, while the lateral ankle collar flaps boast “Metallic Silver” Wings logos. The shimmering silver also dresses the Swoosh overlays.
The upper is anchored to white-painted rubber midsole units, which sit atop “Bordeaux”-colored rubber outsoles.
Mark your calendars – the Air Jordan 1 High “Bordeaux” will release November 20th on JimmyJazz.com for a retail price of $170.
