SNIPES X WE ALL EAT – COOKUNITY

With the prices of food skyrocketing at the worst time of year possible, SNIPES has launched the second part of the We All Eat Program at a time when people truly need it the most. The overarching goal of the We All Eat initiative is to combat With the price of food skyrocketing at the worst time of year possible, SNIPES has launched the second part of the We All Eat Program. Now more than ever, people are in need of safe access to food. The overarching goal of the We All Eat program is to combat food insecurity and nutrition scarcity within the United States. In partnership with Dion’s Chicago Dream, we have been providing fresh produce to 10,000 residents weekly. Our second partner, CookUnity, is delivering nutritious, restaurant-style meals to communities in Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Newark.

SNIPES x Dion’s Chicago Dream was the first We All Eat initiative that launched back in October, delivering fresh produce to over 24 Chicago neighborhoods. The organization was created to provide financial, physical, and emotional stability for residents of Chicago by providing fresh produce that is otherwise difficult to access. To learn more about this initiative, check out our previous blog SNIPES SERVES X WE ALL EAT – DION’S CHICAGO DREAM. SNIPES x CookUnity is the second part of the initiative that is aiming to share healthy meals beyond the restaurant. Each week, residents will receive high-quality, chef-inspired meals created by Ahktar Nawab. Ahktar is the chef and owner of Alta Calidad and Alta Calidad Taqueria in New York, and Otra Vez in New Orleans. CookUnity is a chef collective that envisions a world in which chefs are no longer bound by the economic and geographic limitations of the current restaurant model. The belief is that culinary artists should reach beyond the neighborhood and share their craft with as many people as possible. Check out Chef Ahktar’s Instagram to see all his delicious talent and learn more about his journey.

Our other community partners that have joined our mission include C.H.O.I.C.E.S in Atlanta, GA, YWCA in Brooklyn, NY, and The Apostles’ House in Newark, NJ. The goal for SNIPES x CookUnity is to provide 600 meals weekly to 3 key markets. C.H.O.I.C.E.S is a unique project as it has an innovative approach toward children’s education, adult health, and food sustainability. Part of their approach includes, train-the-trainer health education workshops, nutrient-based cooking classes, chronic disease workshops, and seminars on alternative food systems. The Apostles’ Houses is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization devoted to providing comprehensive social services to homeless women and children, individuals, and families in Newark and Essex County, NJ. Last but not least, the YWCA offers over 300 permanent, safe, and affordable homes in their downtown Brooklyn building for low-income and formerly homeless women, many whom have been victims of gender-based violence. Residents are part of a community and receive a wide variety of services to help them live independently and age in place. These amazing partners will help our dreams come to fruition this winter and holiday season. Knowing that families won’t have to go without nutritious meals because of the support from our partners has been truly heart-warming. We can’t wait to share more love this holiday season as this program extends through the end of January.
