Closing out PRIDE month with some help from Ladies of Hip-Hop, SNIPES supported a two-part event hosted by The International Royal House of NiNa Oricci, with participants learning from a voguing and runway workshop leading up to a Mini Ball competition with a $1000 cash prize. Ladies of Hip Hop generously provided their space for both the Dance Workshop and Mini Ball, which took place on June 29th. From the voguing competition reality TV show Legendary that explores the world of ball culture, Arturo Miyake-Mugler kicked things off with a class in Vogue Femme while Gillette Oricci offered a Runway Class to prepare for the Mini Ball later that evening. With live music from Capital Kaos Oricci, there were plenty of opportunities for the dancers to showcase their talents at the Ladies of Hip Hop dance studio.
After the dance workshop classes, the studio became a space for a panel discussion featuring a group that worked on the show Legendary. Arturo Mugler, Aoki Yamamoto, and Tim Lanvin shared their thoughts on the TV show and ball culture while answering questions from the audience. The Mini Ball took place shortly after the panel where contestants had the chance to compete in their assigned categories. The competition provided a night of fun and freedom of movement, leaving onlookers in awe of some of the incredible costumes and dance moves that they were witnessing.
Only one winner could take home the $1000 prize at the end of the night, but everyone who participated brought their very best and hopefully learned a lot in the process.
